Rejoiceth Not in Iniquity

Hopefully no one is actually rejoicing in iniquity...or are you? What are you rejoicing in/focusing on? The good or the bad?

Focuses on Good

Be your companion’s greatest advocate. Do not put your companion down under any circumstances. Defend your companion when you are with others.
 

Even when you are alone* the asterisk is because missionaries are never alone :) but you need to focus on the good even when you are alone in your thoughts. Don't rejoice in the negative.
 

Bonnie’s Rule Bonnie (my awesome sister who has an awesome blog) has a rule: If you tell me something bad about your spouse/family/companion then you have to tell me something good about them to counteract it. She has run into people who have not had anything good to say about their spouse...

Eliminate Destructive Thought Patterns

Watch your thoughts, words and deeds. (seeMosiah4:30)

Your thoughts shape your actions and your emotions. Are you focusing on the good or the bad. Are you telling yourself things that are not true (I'm worthless, the Lord/others can't love me, I can't be forgiven, etc)

Comparing myself with others was always destructive.

Even if I could find an area where I felt slightly superior, comparing was not positive because it made me feel smug and self-satisfied.

Mostly, though, it left me feeling hopelessly inferior to the people around me.

I found that either conclusion is harmful. And just the process of comparing ourselves with everyone else keeps our attention constantly focused inward. This frame of mind makes love and service very difficult indeed.

Our goal is not to compete with or imitate anyone on this earth, but to use our unique gifts to serve other people.
